Artistic/Occupational Influence: Illustration/Cartooning
Strategies (to meet needs of different learning styles): Latitude will be given to accommodate varying degrees of artistic/motor skill development.
Activities (Step by Step):  Students will discuss Media.  Students will be given a 12 x 18" piece of paper and a pencil to begin with.  They will be instructed to draw a scene from their favorite T.V. Show showing the characters and action typical of the show.  They will be required to use at least 3 different media in the execution of their drawing.
Evaluation: Effort and complexity of each student's drawing will be evaluated.

Activities (Step by Step): Take a 4" x 4" square piece of paper and fold it twice.  Make random snips with a pair of scissors, making holes.  Open up to see the "snowflake".  Encourage experimentation with different shapes and deeper cuts to alter the shapes of snowflakes.
Evaluation: No Grade, Just participation.

Activities (Step by Step):  Teacher will read the story of the birth of Jesus to the class.  A discussion will follow detailing what was read.  The role of illustrator will then be discussed and the students will be given a 12 x 18" sheet of paper, pencil, and crayons and asked to pick one portion of the story and illustrate it.
Evaluation: Convincing telling of the story.

Title: Color Egyptian Pyramid with Hieroglyphics Illustration: 
Grade Level: 1
Goals/Objectives (from Graded Course of Study):  II. Art History and Culture  5. Explores the content or message of a work (include works depicting everyday events, special events, observations)    17.  Understands how societies express values and beliefs in art work
Artistic/Occupational Influence:  Egyptian
Activities:  The students will be given a ruler, 12 x 18" piece of paper and a pencil.  They will be instructed how to draw a triangle and make it into a pyramid by adding another side going back in perspective.  Students will then use their rulers to divide up their pyramids into stripes which will be turned into stone blocks.  After the pyramid is finished, a background of sand, hills, and sky will be outlined using a pencil.  The students will be given a handout with Egyptian Hieroglyphs and their modern letter equivalents and will be asked to write their names inside a cartouche on their picture next to the pyramid.  The picture will then be colored with crayons.
 
Evaluation: Does it look like a pyramid?  Have they made a good faith effort to use hieroglyphics?
